This is our third year. We love Scrapfest and look forward to this years build.

My teammate and I would love to participate in the Old Town ScrapFest for the joy of competition, being able to share our creative visions with the masses, and having the opportunity to potentially spark some interest of the arts to a new individual.

My interests are in smaller metal sculpture and this would give me the opportunity to challenge my problem solving and artistic skills by working on a larger scale. Participating in ScrapFest is something that I have wanted to become involved in for the past few years now. This year I have the necessary equipment and free time to actually follow through with these goals. I have been looking forward to ScrapFest 2015 and am excited about participating.

As a local artist, maker and blacksmith ScrapFest is a great outlet for my creative side! I am active in the Lansing Makers Network and want to help promote making and art in Lansing.

As an artist, I love the challenge and creative process ScrapFest provides.  Having participated in the event every year since its inception, I am thankful for the way ScrapFest has helped shape me as an artist. Also, I love Old Town and I am excited that this event helps to promote and support the OTCA.

We are always interested in furthering our connection with the public to open new avenues of dialogue about art. ScrapFest has successfully allowed and increased our ability to do so with each previous year we have participated.

Community, Pressure, Challenge and probably in that order! I have been on team "Iron in the Blood" for 2 years. Love it! Last year my son asked if he could be with me on a team. I am even more excited this year because of that. Several of my blacksmith group associates (Dace, Cliff, Lee & I) have been talking about this most of the year and are very excited to move metal again.

Tradition. It's become a summer staple - a must-do event in our favorite part of town.

I've introduced several friends to the event in the past few years, and many have gone on to form teams of their own. This year is no different, with two members of last year's team applying this time to work with their families. So, if the unofficial theme is family, then I will comply by applying with my dad - my steadfast partner. I'm also working on another new recruit, but he is unable to commit this far ahead of time. Hopefully he can make it - as long as doesn't move on to form another team. I can't have my proteges knocking me out of the competition. Haha

I have participated in this event for several years and could not imagine not being part of it this year. It is very fun and rewarding and all the art work is fantastic!

As always, I appreciate being chosen as one of the participating artists!

Scrapfest to me is about the creativity of the mind, creating something from nothing. New doesn't necessarily mean better and old doesn't have to mean wore out and useless. 

If you have the mind for it and the few basic tools you don't have to conform to the obvious.

To have the ability to create something from nothing is a special quality... To see a vision and take that vision and watch it evolve.

Wouldn't miss it for anything! I enjoy the competition and the spirit! This year we would like to compete in honor of my brother Josh Platt, who was a team member previously. He died tragically in March 2015, and we'd love to have a chance to honor him through sculpture.

We are rookies to any type of competition. We are all talented family members who excel in creative and resourceful use of materials primarily for everyday useful applications. It will be fun, challenging and a great family experience. We are not to be underestimated despite an almost non existent portfolio or past competition experience. Creativity and hot metal runs through our veins. Four generations of metal fabrication is what we have to offer.

It was an excellent experience last year and we are thrilled to compete in it again.

Our team became friends when we participated in an intensive/concentrated welding course at Lansing Community College.  Shelly Kaye, the team leader, has had a personal interest in participating in ScrapFest since she met Barb Hranilovich last year. After meeting another artist in the class,  it was determined we would put together a team and use our creative and technical skills to create something together with our classmates who were interested.  The ones who joined the team from our class were all excited about continuing the fun we had in class welding and putting our creative juices together.

We competed in 2011 & 2012 and won both years. We missed 2013 & 2014. We always enjoyed the competition and meeting the other artist and we plan to win our title back . As always, we have plans for something extraordinary and out of the box.
